Herd Player of the Week

Xavier Munford

Xavier Munford continued his phenomenal play for the Wisconsin Herd last week, clinching his third-straight Herd Player of the Week honor.

The 6'3" point guard topped 20 points in all three games (28-26-22) and posted a stat-sheet-filling line -- 28 points (3-of-5 3PT), eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals -- against the BayHawks on December 13.

Munford currently ranks 6th in the NBA G League in scoring (24.5 points per game) and still makes more than he misses (51.5% 3PT) from downtown. He's lightning-quick with the ball and makes a handful of highlight-reel plays each game.

Munford as been an offensive catalyst for the Herd all season and has truly been one of the standout performers in the NBA G League this year.

Bucks waive GPII, sign Kilpatrick

The Bucks waived guard Gary Payton II this week. As a Two-Way contract player, GPII could spend up to 45 days with the NBA team, and as he reached the max, the Bucks had a decision to make.

Faced with injuries at the guard spot, yet no longer able to utilize the Two-Way roster spot for extra help as they had been doing with Payton to this point, the Bucks opted to waive Payton.

GPII averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in 12 games (6 starts) for the Bucks this season. He also appeared in three games for the Herd (most recently in their Oshkosh home opener on Dec. 1, in which he tallied 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals), averaging 18.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

It is likely that Payton latches on with another team fairly quickly.

To fill the Two-Way contract roster spot created by Payton's departure, the Bucks signed Sean Kilpatrick, a 6'4" guard who was recently waived by the Brooklyn Nets in a roster move related to the Jahlil Okafor trade.

Kilpatrick, who averaged 13.1 points per game in 70 games for the Nets last season, figures to add more offensive firepower while providing depth to Milwaukee's backcourt.

James Young double-doubles versus BayHawks

James Young put on a shooting display on his way to a double-double (28 points, 10 rebounds) versus the BayHawks on Saturday night.

The 6'7" sharp-shooter's impressive offensive arsenal was on full display in this game (as seen in the above video). Whether it's long-range, mid-range, or around-the-hoop, JY can get his shot off in a variety of ways, and chances are it's going in.

Young ranks 9th in the NBA G League in scoring (23.1 points per game) and continues to fill it up from downtown (making 3.8 treys per game).

Bolomboy is back

Forward Joel Bolomboy, the Bucks' other Two-Way player, suited up for the Herd twice last week.

Bolomboy, like Payton, had used up most of his 45-day NBA service time, and will now spend most, if not all, of his time with the Herd (unless the Bucks decide to bring him up full-time and convert his Two-Way contract into a standard NBA deal).

The 2016 second-round pick by the Utah Jazz has appeared in four games for the Herd this season (most recently at the Oshkosh home opener) and is averaging a double-double (15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds) in each contest.

He has also played in played in six NBA games with the Bucks this season, averaging 1.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game.

Jabari Parker practices with the Herd

The Milwaukee Bucks assigned star forward Jabari Parker to the Herd on Monday as he continues to make progress in his recovery from an ACL injury.

Parker, who is aiming to return to the Bucks in February 2018, practiced with the Herd in Milwaukee on Monday and Tuesday before being recalled to the NBA on Tuesday afternoon.

Herd to make Twitch debut this week

The NBA G League recently announced they are pairing with Twitch to broadcast games this season, and the Wisconsin Herd will make their first appearance on the platform Saturday, December 23, when they take on the Westchester Knicks.

Twitch offers a unique viewing experience that includes interactive features and fan commentary during the game. I checked it out last week and was blown away by how cool it is. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

The Herd will appear on Twitch five times this season. (View the full NBA G League on Twitch schedule).

Around the Herd: Brandon Jennings set to debut, Herd drawing huge home crowds, Cliff Alexander's impressive efficiency, James Blackmon Jr. heating up

[Photo: Yahoo! Sports ] Brandon Jennings to make Herd debut Former Bucks first-round pick Brandon Jennings is set to make his Wisconsin Herd debut on February 21 against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Jennings, who signed with the NBA G League last week after a stint in China, was  claimed  by the Herd and is set to be in uniform, wearing number 10, on Wednesday in Oshkosh. Jennings averaged 17.0 points and 5.7 assists per game in his Bucks career after being drafted #10 overall in 2009, and was having a productive NBA career before injuries derailed him. But as a Bucks fan who remembers Jennings' explosive scoring and play-making ability from his early career, it would not surprise me to see the 28-year-old point guard get back to that level of production if he's healthy again. NBA teams around the league will be watching his Herd debut, as well, because while he plays for the Bucks minor-league affiliate, Jennings is a NBA G League free agent and able to sign with any ...
